Can you drive with a bad axle?

Sometimes a vehicle with a minor CV joint noise can still be driven carefully to a repair appointment. That does not mean the problem is harmless. Joint wear generally gets worse, not better, and a torn boot allows damage to accelerate.

The risk rises when vibration is strong, the noise is loud or constant, grease is visibly leaking, or the vehicle behaves differently during acceleration and turns. Continuing to drive can turn a manageable repair into a breakdown, and it may place extra stress on related drivetrain components.
